Growing a school

Logo, visual identity, signage, informational and fundraising materials.

When Alexander Hamilton Elementary, a Chicago Public School, was threatened with a “phase-out” by the Board of Chicago Public Schools in 2009, I worked on a document to convince the Board to keep the school open. I created an image of the school with big block letter signage of the school’s name to show how this tucked-away school could grab more attention and improve its curb appeal. When a new CEO decided to keep Hamilton open, the new Principal decided to have the signage made. The document has since circulated around other CPS schools, and many schools around the city have replicated this original signage idea as a way to bring name recognition to their schools.

Since that time, I worked closely with the school to design a new logo, more exterior signage, and marketing materials. I named the annual fundraiser, the “Patriots’ Ball” and created all of the marketing and event materials for ten of the events.
